OIP News - Firing up the grill?
How to make sure that's all that starts fire!
It’s officially barbeque season! While you’re perfecting your grilling technique, you’ll want to make sure that safety is at the top of your mind. Many people may not be aware, but barbequing poses a serious fire and safety risk. Here are some tips to keep your family and home safe this summer:
- As you already know, your barbeque should be outdoors in a well ventilated area. Always position your barbeque level on stable ground to prevent potential tipping, and ensure that it is several feet from anything (like the wall of your home).
- Be sure to keep your propane cylinder out of direct sunlight.
- Make sure the lid is up before igniting the grill.
- Never leave the grill unattended or move it when it’s lit.
- When cooking, use long-handled utensils to avoid burns and splatters.
- Never smoke near a propane tank.
- When finished, always turn off the tank first, then the burners
- Use soapy water to check for leaks after re-connecting the regulator to the tank
- Be sure to have a fire extinguisher nearby in your home in case of a fire
These simple tips will help keep you enjoying the food and fun of the barbeque season.
