Pet Owners
Pets: A best friend for the whole family
According to a survey by the American Animal Hospital Association (AAHA), when asked, "Who listens to you best?", 45 per cent of respondents chose their pets, while 30 per cent chose their spouse or significant other.
In the same survey, if the respondents were deserted on an island and could choose only one companion, 50 per cent would pick a dog or cat rather than a human, and 94 per cent think their pet has human-like personality traits such as being emotional or sensitive, outgoing, inquisitive or stubborn.
Why do pet owners feel so attached to their pets? Maybe this is best explained by the many benefits of having a pet:
- companionship
- health benefits
- stress relief
- assistance (for vision and hearing impaired individuals, etc.)
- a sense of security
- unconditional love
- an avid listener
- a happy face to greet you at the end of a long day
- the list goes on...
