Board of Directors

Sue Dorland DVM, President

Sue_headshotDr. Sue Dorland's love of animals began when she was growing up on a small farm in rural Ontario. After graduating from the Ontario Veterinary College in 1993, she began working at the Oshawa Animal Hospital in Oshawa, Ont. She now owns the practice and describes her role as a veterinarian and practice owner as “the best job in the world.”

Dr. Dorland enjoys giving back to her local community, as well as the veterinary community. Along with other local veterinarians and the Humane Society, Dr. Dorland helped to establish the Durham Region Spay Neuter Assistance Program in 2012. She's a past president of the Ontario Veterinary College Alumni Association and is an active member of the South Durham Region Veterinary Association.

Dr. Dorland has volunteered with OVMA for several years, serving as a member of the Conference Committee from 2010-2011. She was elected to the OVMA Board of Directors as a Director-at-Large in 2015 and joined the Executive Committee in 2016.

Feeling the tug to move back to the country, Dr. Dorland and her partner Ian now enjoy life on a small farm with their horses and their beloved Australian Cattle Dog, Jack.

Albert Wimmers DVM, President-Elect

Albert_WimmersSince a young age, Dr. Albert Wimmers was interested in the science behind veterinary medicine. Having grown up in the country, surrounded by horses, cats and dogs, he decided to pursue a veterinary career to help "fix" the animals he loved.

After graduating from the Ontario Veterinary College in 1991, he started his career at a small animal clinic in Welland, Ont. From there, Dr. Wimmers became practice owners of Limestone Valley Animal Hospital in Burlington, Ont., and later added Tansley Woods Veterinary Hospital.

Dr. Wimmers' values the relationships he's built with his clients and strives to strengthen them in various ways, including making house calls to clients with special needs.

Having served on the OVMA board for several years, Dr. Wimmers appreciated the wealth of knowledge, insight and guidance the association provides to the veterinary profession. He's also been a strong supporter of the Farley Foundation, regularly participating in the charity's annual Ride for Farley event and fundraising for the foundation.

In his spare time, Dr. Wimmers enjoys spending time with his wife and four children, volunteering with his church and a local animal shelter, as well as running, cycling and participating in triathlons.

Gwen Jeun DVM, Past-President

Dr._Gwen_Jeun_PhotoDr. Gwen Jeun is a 1997 graduate of the Ontario Veterinary College (OVC) and has been an OVMA member ever since. She's proud of how the OVMA represents veterinarians, both provincially and abroad.

Dr. Jeun is a longtime associate veterinarian at Emeryville Animal Hospital, where she practices small animal veterinary medicine. Her past experience includes laboratory animal medicine consulting and teaching in a veterinary technician program, and she's a past president of the Essex County Veterinary Association. Dr. Jeun is certified in veterinary acupuncture with the International Veterinary Acupuncture Society (IVAS). She's also a member of the Association of Veterinary Acupuncturists of Canada (AVAC).

Dr. Jeun lives in Windsor, Ont., with her husband. Although currently between pets, she has a soft spot for beagles.

Creating awareness about wellness in the veterinary profession is important to Dr. Jeun. She's a registered yoga teacher (E-RYT 200, Yoga Alliance), and has led yoga and meditation sessions at the OVMA Conference & Trade Show, OVC, AVAC and on the Veterinary Information Network.
