After an exhaustive search process, OVMA is pleased to announce that Mr. John Stevens has been selected to succeed Doug Raven as OVMA CEO and executive director of the Farley Foundation when Doug retires in May. John will join the organization on May 10 and work alongside Doug for two weeks to ensure a smooth transition, and then formally take over as OVMA CEO and the foundation’s executive director on May 25.
John served as OVMA’s manager of government and external relations from 2010 to 2018. For the past three years, he's held increasingly senior positions at the Accelerator Centre (AC), a Waterloo-based, non-profit technology startup accelerator. The AC is Canada’s top private business accelerator and ranks as one of the top five such organizations in the world. John joined the AC as director, external relations and strategic initiatives in early 2018, and was promoted to vice-president, strategy and external relations, shortly thereafter. While at the AC, he built a strong team and positive workplace culture, and delivered almost $5 million in new public and private funding, including the AC’s largest-ever corporate contribution of $1 million. From September 2020 until recently, he also led the team through a period of transition while serving as the AC’s interim CEO.
John brings a wealth of relevant knowledge and experience to the association and the foundation. His familiarity with the issues facing the veterinary profession, combined with his advocacy, non-profit governance, and corporate culture development experience will serve the organization well as it addresses current and future challenges.
“Veterinarians are some of the most trusted, dedicated and hardest working people I’ve ever had the opportunity to work alongside," he says. "As such, I’m driven to see the veterinary profession and its members continue to succeed and have a positive impact on their patients and clients. I look forward to working hard, every day, to advance what Doug has built to keep the profession and OVMA/Farley Foundation at the forefront of the industry.”
