  • Free Legal Advice - Simply call the Legal Counsel Service at 1.877.636.8557 for free legal advice about any topic, personal or professional (except tax law). Please note that this service offers summary, over-the-phone advice only. A 25 per cent discount on legal services is available if you require more extensive legal counsel. Free legal advice is also offered through the OVMA Member Assistance Program (MAP) (except employment, immigration and tax law).

  • Public Relations Services – Includes help with social media and traditional media. Available to members free of charge. Plus, if you have an event or a unique story you want to share about veterinary care, tell us about it to possibly be featured in newspapers, on social media, blogs, radio and TV. Submit your questions or stories to mcarlaw@ovma.org.

  • Regulatory and Government Relations Services – Take the guess work out of understanding CVO regulations, by-laws and government issues that affect veterinarians. Submit your questions or concerns to jstevens@ovma.org

  • Veterinary Information Network (VIN) discount – Get a 10% discount on VIN subscriptions. The discount applies to both individual and group (practice) subscriptions. OVMA members with individual VIN subscriptions can expect to save about $70 CDN per year. Practices with a 3–5 veterinarian group membership can expect to save about $140 CDN per year. Savings are available to both current and future VIN subscribers. Call VIN at 1.800.700.4636 and let them know you're an OVMA member to take advantage of your discount.

  • Professionals Health Program (PHP) – A completely confidential resource for veterinarians seeking information for themselves or a colleague.   • Practice Consultations – Get a detailed snapshot of how your practice is performing compared to other practices in the province. Client numbers, staffing, production expenses, and fees are examined to determine the hospital's strengths and weaknesses. Then a strategy is outlined to move the practice forward. Free for all Clinic Member practice owners. 

  • Practice Dashboard - Register to receive automated monthly reports on your practice revenue and active clients, including a comparison of how you're doing compared to other practices in the province. It's FREE and easy to set up.

  • Preventive Healthcare Plans are one of the most effective ways for practices to increase client visits, according to the 2011 Bayer Veterinary Care Usage Study. These plans offer a basket of annual wellness services, with the cost of the services spread out in regular installments. Not only do they encourage clients to visit the practice, they can improve patient care, and provide the practice with a regular, predictable source of income. 

  • Reports and Surveys – A wealth of information is available for OVMA members. Research on staffing, compensation, practice economics, pet owner perceptions, and topics specific to large/mixed and small animal veterinarians. 

  • RSIC X-Ray Safety Online Course – Available to members at the discounted rate of $98.60. If registering three or more participants, an additional 20% discount will apply.

  • vets.myvetstore.ca – OVMA Webstore Service – Establish your own online store to sell medications, diets, and other products to clients, and have those products delivered right to the client’s door.   • Farley Foundation – Up to $1,500/year per practice in funding to help the following pet owners receive non-elective veterinary care for their pets: seniors receiving GIS, disabled persons receiving ODSP or CPP Disability, women at risk of abuse (participants of the OVMA SafePet Program), and individuals receiving Ontario Works. Farley also helps senior care facilities (long-term care, supportive housing, retirement homes) to pay for non-elective care for pets that live in those facilities.   • SafePet Program – Helps women at risk of abuse (and their children) who are entering women’s shelters to escape their abusive partners, by providing temporary care and housing for their pets. For information about how to get involved, email jstevens@ovma.org.

  • Safety Handbook and the WHMIS Handbook – Members get free access to our health and safety handbooks. 

  • The Veterinary Profession: A Career Guide – A detailed booklet on what is takes to become a veterinarian. Designed for teens who are considering joining the profession. Share the digital version
